My biggest musical influences are Alice Cooper, Todd Rundgren, Neil Young and Dave Grohl.
I discovered Alice as a teen. I found his music edgy, well made, with a definite message to each song. BTW, a trivia fact for you, I have a guitar named Alice. And a cat named Alice back in the day.
Todd Rundgren "opened my eyes" and my ears to what music could be. I also love the fact that TR does it all himself...all instruments, vocals, concept, production, etc. Back in the 1970's this was hard to do. Today, it's a piece of cake. I think of TR in the studio every time I go there.
Neil Young taught me to play from the heart. Neil's music strikes a chord with my inner being. It's not about being complex or tricky, it's about soul and heart. Listening to Neil taught me that.
One really cool thing about Neil's music is that my son AJ loves listening and playing Neil music also. We recorded a Neil Young tribute album together entitled Live At Kelsey Drive. How cool is that! I will send you a copy of the CD if you drop me a line at notfifty@hotmail.com
We recorded several songs together and a few individually on Live At Kelsey Drive. Here is one of my favorites from the album...every time I listen to it I say wow! It's called Don't Let It Bring You Down and it's recorded by AJ solo. One take I think. Here is one we did together called Cowgirl In the Sand.
Dave Grohl is the most recent addition to my music influence list. I like Dave's attitude towards music. It is summed up in this document. He is a great entertainer and song writer. His riffs are really good and his music just makes me want to make some of my own music. Real. Personal. Imperfect. Best I can do.
